Nicole Ari Parker was born in New York City. She is an American stage and film actor. Her most notable role was that of Teri, the passionate attorney Teri Jospehson, on the Showtime television series Soul Food. The actress is known under her married name, Nikki Kodjoe. She was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an aptitude for acting in her the age of five and was awarded an award for the best Actress prize at an Maryland high school competition. After working in theater and with 'The Washington Ballet Company' she received a master's certificate in acting from New York University. The actress received lots of praise for her first large role as a character in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love. Films like Blue Streak and Boogie Nights Spark followed. Her praise was for her role as a character in Soul Food. She has also starred in TV shows such as Second Time Around" and Empire. Contractor who was born in Mumbai and was a resident of Nigeria for seven years experienced a variety of adventures and cultural encounters from an early age. She attended boarding school between the ages of 7 until 9 in London. Later, she and her family relocated home to Toronto (Canada) in Canada, where she spent her entire childhood. In Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics, and was trained to become a classical ballerina. She went to the Etobicoke School of the Arts. It's a school for arts and sciences, in which she didn't just take classes in theater but also performed as well. At 16, after nearly 10 years of dancing Contractor decided to pursue acting seriously. As soon as she finished her high school education, she was awarded a full Scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed the Master of Arts in Theatre. She was also a double major in Psychology and Sociology. Contractor was a participant in the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After one full year, she was awarded the leading role. The 92 productions she performed earned praise from Canadian critics. Contractor accepted an invitation to attend Stratford's Conservatory program. The Conservatory has only 8 men and four females are admitted to a course of 20 weeks in the classical theatre. She was scheduled to perform in the following play-season was confirmed and she was cast in the role in Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
